About the artist
ART
I have been creating art for as long as I can remember but only recently has it become a central feature of my life. Perhaps I should have realised earlier that I was meant to be an artist, as I have been selling my paintings since high school. Over the years I have had commissions for portraits, landscapes and abstracts. I have recently started exhibiting and have been blown away by the response my art received.
I have trouble pinning down my style, so I just let myself paint whatever I want, whenever I want. I think this is the only way I can work as an artist. I like sparse, empty space, I love busy opulence, I love EVERY colour, intricate detail, raw expression, figures, flowers, abstracts, patterns, painting, drawing, collage, and…and…and!
So you will not get a branded, consistent style from me, but every painting is a genuine love affair with whatever moment I was having at that time.
MUSIC
I have always loved music, and grew up in a family of music lovers. However, neither me nor my brothers could stick with our music lessons. In our late teens and early twenties we picked up a few instruments – and all of us have stuck with guitar. I started classical guitar lessons at 24. While many may find the thought of starting classical guitar lessons at 24 intimidating – the structure was perfect for me. I sometimes need rules and deadlines in order to get anything done!
After having my first child at 32 I suddenly had an overwhelming urge to write songs – and they came flooding out at a rapid pace. At 39, I had many songs banked up in my head, so I decided to record them professionally. I saw this as a way to get them out into the world (and free up some hard drive space in my head!). I think of my songs and artworks like little gifts to the world, hopefully they find their way to people that love them.
